Northwest Passage Expedition

We headed North to join the The World and her groundbreaking voyage of exploration through the fabled Northwest Passage. This is the route between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans along the north coast on North America. Roald Amundsen became the first successfully navigate this route, back in 1906. Global climate change has loosened the far north’s icy grip on this sea passage, allowing non-icebreakers access for short window in summer. Only 160 vessels have ever made the transit successfully.

We hope to see polar bear, walrus and of course seabirds, whales and seals. We will be looked after by the shop crew and the expedition staff.

While we hoped to be part of the complete transit, prior commitments to friends and work obligations mean we will only join for the first leg from Nome Alaska to Cambridge Bay Canada.

We packed all of cold weather clothing, charged our camera batteries and boarded our flight to Nome Alaska.
