Biysk (Бийск)

Black Friday (черная пятница), June 13, 2014

Woke up early as our room did not have curtains and the sun got up early here. Still, we took our time and enjoyed breakfast and a mid-morning latte (our first ones since The Fairfield Guesthouse in Tsetserleg, Mongolia 3 weeks before) at ‘Traveler’s Coffee’. The short drive to Biysk was nice enough. We were getting used to how the various speed signs work. Almost got it worked out.

Checked into the ‘very flash’ Tsentralnaya Hotel. It was like a studio apartment, without the kitchen. Unfortunately the ‘hot’ water was only luke warm, so not good enough to enjoy the inviting bath tub 🙁 We went for an afternoon walk around the Biysk Old Town where we visited the Memorial to the Biysk Soldiers fallen in WWII and the Church of the Assumption. The rest of the old town comprised mostly of ‘formerly grand now dilapidated buildings’. Bought some goodies in a supermarket and had lunch in our room.

Entrance Gate and Church of Assumption.
Dome of the Church of Assumption.
Dilapidated Grandeur.
Did we stumble upon a some, possibly disused, Russian ‘Starfleet Academy Branch’?
