Sanya, Hainan Island

After a day at sea and on route from Hong Kong to Vietnam, we docked for 2 days at Sanya, Hainan Island, China. Not much to this place really. It’s being marketed as the ‘Hawaii of China’, because of its tropical climate. In reality there wasn’t much to see. We headed into town to find some local currency and were rewarded with a damn fine Starbucks coffee. Feeling the need to see more of this bustling town, we went for a walk along the beach, consumed a sugary fruit drink and headed back to the ship.

In the evening we were rewarded with a rather spectacular light show presented on the futuristic (and somewhat empty) buildings located at the port. The Chinese love their light shows.

The second day Stephen ventured out for a bike ride along the sea-wall with Alison. The ship set sail at 6pm.
