Aurora Australis on the long voyage to New Zealand

Monday, January 30th – Monday, February 6th

On Monday, January 30th, we all got together on the stern of the ship for a ‘Farewell Antarctica Cocktail’. What an incredible experience being able to visit an area as remote as the Ross Sea! On the 7-day voyage to New Zealand a lot of time was spent reminiscing about the experience, listening to lectures and spending time with old and new friends.

We also talked to several expedition members about our Mt Bevin hopes and plans. We will update that website with more information in the weeks after returning home from this trip.

And to top it all off the skies put on the most magical of light shows in the night of Feb 1-2!!! Seeing the Southern Lights / Aurora Australis from deck 12 at the back of the ship was truly an extraordinary sight! Photos below were taken without a tripod on a ship in rather rough seas.

The World reached Lyttleton Harbour (Christchurch) early morning on February 6, 2017.
