We joined the 'Ansel Adams Gallery Celestial Encore' to try and copy Ansel Adams' famous 1960 'Moon and Half Dome' photo. The weather forecast for Yosemite was good. 3:25pm; Nov 28, 2009. On this day at 4:04pm the moon was going to be in exactly the same spot as it was in 1960 when Ansel took his photo. Setting up the shot and hoping for that band of cloud to clear off of Half Dome.
4:10pm; Nov 28, 2009. 4:04pm came and went and unfortunately the clouds did not lift; on the contrary. 4:38pm; Nov 28, 2009. We did however stay around for a while to capture some of the evening sunset hues on Half Dome. 4:38pm; Nov 28, 2009. And then at 4:38pm the moon faintly shone through the cloud cover, but naturally no longer in the desired spot. 4:47pm, Nov 28, 2009. Not exactly like Ansel's shot, but hey, we tried! 11:09am; 29 Nov, 2009. Reflection in the Merced River at Rocky Point. 11:09am; Nov 29, 2009. Merced River at Rocky Point.
4:06pm; Nov 29, 2009. We stayed the following day to have another go. Setting up the shot. 4:27pm; Nov 29, 2009. Clear skies above Half Dome this time. The moon wasn't going to be in the exact same spot this day... 4:43pm; Nov 29, 2009. ...but here it is: our try at Ansel's shot. In black and white, naturally. 4:44pm; Nov 29, 2009. We again stayed to marvel at the changing sunset hues on Half Dome.
