Mt Shasta with Friends
May 17, 2015

A quick trip up the I5 to climb Mt Shasta with Darrin and Lisa. The weather was not kind to us and we did not even attempt the summit. Instead we did a little skills training. Great weekend nonetheless.

Mt. Kilimanjaro – 20-31 January 2012
February 3, 2012

In 2003 Stephen and I went to Kilimanjaro. Although I did enjoy the hiking I never made it to the summit then. Naturally Stephen did. Ever since then I’ve had this little niggling in the back of my mind – Stephen likes to call it ‘Summit Demons’ – about maybe going back some day and […]

Mt Kosciuszko
November 29, 2011

On Friday November 18 we boarded a plane to Melbourne where we landed on Sunday November 20th. We stayed 2 nights with our friends Patty and Jono and their 3 daughters in Aspendale. Very nice to catch up! Two days later we drove to Thredbo to prepare for the ‘big climb’. We checked into the […]

Overnighting at Brussels Airport
June 13, 2006

Just arrived at my hotel at Brussels airport – this was the easiest option as I’m starting my trip home tomorrow morning. Just checked Stephen’s progress on Denali where the weather has been a spoil-sport for a while now. No teams have summitted in the last 10-12 days or so. But reading the last post […]

Shasta Weekend Apr 28-30
May 1, 2006

We went to Shasta for the weekend; left on Friday afternoon and returned on Sunday afternoon. Guess who did all the driving!! Saturday morning I dropped Stephen of at the trailhead, where he set off for a day-hike (good training for Mt McKinley). Meanwhile I went cruising around in Minike, strolled around Shasta town, had […]

Expeditions and Adventures
Final preparations for our trips.
November 17, 2005

As you know by now – if you’ve been keeping an eye on this – Stephen is leaving for Antartica soon: he’s flying out on Sat Nov 19th. At the moment he’s making sure that all his gear is in tip-top condition and that nothing is missing. For those of you who are interested: it […]

Mountains

Hit a slight hiccup in the expedition preparations. Adventure Consultants, the company I was planning to go with, cancelled the expedition I was scheduled on. A little annoying. But some last minute digging around and I found another expedition company. My seat on the plane had been reserved, so this was the important thing. As […]

Vinson Massif – Equipment Update
August 25, 2005

It is all about the gear. Finally decided on a sleeping bag. Details of the bag can be found here. The down pants arrived today, yipee. Caroline thinks I look pretty silly walking around in my down pants. So now I pretty much have all the body wear, including Thermal underwear (2 pairs), fleece jacket, […]

Mountains
Aconcagua
December 22, 2004

Left the mountain at 6:00pm last night for the drive back to civilization. The climb was great. Quite bit easier than I thought it would be. Even through I was wasted by the time we got off the summit and to the safety of the high camp. Richard and I were able to do the […]

Hi all, It’s Monday morning and Stephen just rang to say that he and his climbing friend Richard summited Aconcagua successfully! Stephen will fill you in on the details later. He’s back in Plaza de Mulas basecamp at the moment and may get to a computer in Mendoza in the next few days. I am […]

Mt Rainier, Washington (14,410 ft)
July 9, 2004

Thought I’d better send a quick post to let you all know that I was successful in my summit of Mt Rainier! I set off at 10:30am Monday from the car-park arriving at Camp Muir around 3:00 pm. After a light dinner, we were all tucked-up and in bed by 6:00pm. Although it was somewhat […]
